Alt Open House started as an idea to have an exhibition in a tattoo shop before Christmas and quickly turned into its own new and exciting art trail across some of Brightons most unique and new businesses showcasing some of Brightons great artists. Alt Open House runs from November 26th to December 18th, the work is on show for those three weeks but each weekend some of the venues will be having their own Alt Open house stall set up with artists there to chat to people and sell their work. Some of the smaller venues will just be hosting exhibitions which will be able to look around and purchase the art.
Alt Open House is free for all artists involved, our aim is to be able to give artists a platform to showcase their work and meet fellow artists and art lovers. Some of our artists are full time artists, some have other jobs and create their work at home in their spare time, some are full time mums, some have just started creating work, and some have been making art for years.
THE LOOSE HOOKER
We have tried to bring an eclectic range of work to the venues, each weekend some of the venues will have the artists there selling their work and talking to people as they take in the work. We will have some live art, workshops across the venues. Expect a cross between an artist open studio and a zine fair. Our venues range from pubs to coffee shops to a tattoo parlour, they will be welcoming people in to take in their
surroundings and view the art on show.
Expect to see everything from illustration, painting, photography, ceramics, jewellery, printmaking, sculpture, puppets, bespoke potted plants and more from over 60 artists.
Jessica Sharville came up with the idea for Alt Open House in May after she decided she would turn her Tattoo Studio she manages (Tattoo Workshop) into an exhibition space for a month running up to Christmas, she had so much interest that she decided to expand it.
60 artists will be exhibiting across the following venues:
Hare & Hounds
The Hive cafe
North Laine Brew House
Pharmacie coffee roasters
